Luna (2018)

Luna (2018)

This was a portrait of a husky, Luna. I did not have the pleasure of meeting Luna, but I'm sure she was a good dog. May her smile live on forever in this painting.

Ziggy (2021)

Ziggy (2021)

This was a commission of a beautiful great dane named Ziggy. The source photo did not include his front feet, but I thought the composition would be more pleasing with them included. It’s always best to be able to see the subject in person, and to have as many source photos as possible to get the very best result.

Wedding Portrait (2017)

Wedding Portrait (2017)

This was based of a photo from my own wedding in 2003. I was disappointed to see one of my favorite photos had become discolored, and when I took it out of the frame, the paper started chipping off. I decided to paint it in the hopes of preserving one of my happiest moments for years to come. The original painting is a 14" X 11" acrylic on canvas.

Fei Fei (2017)

Fei Fei (2017)

This portrait was based on a photograph by photographer Leonid Andronov. It's a 12" X 9" acrylic painting on board. Here's a link to the original photo: https://www.instagram.com/p/BQXMfsqFkIT/

Blessing the Harvest (2016)

Blessing the Harvest (2016)

The original is a 36" X 24" acrylic painting on canvas, hung in a gold-colored frame. I've been attempting to combine the styles of Mucha and van Gogh in a harmonious way, and I believe I've taken a step closer to that in this piece. Though not stylistically identical, it is meant to be a companion piece to "Raising the Solstice Sun". Prints can be purchased through my Society6 Shop.

Two Friends on a Morning Walk (2017)

Two Friends on a Morning Walk (2017)

This is a 14" X 11" acrylic painting on board. It won first place at the Sunnyvale Art Club January 2017 meeting for the theme "Winter Wonderland/Light and Shadows".

Nice Dream (2016)

Nice Dream (2016)

I treasure the moment before waking up, when I can experience flying and being a hero. I'm inspired by Vincent van Gogh, and hope to bring magic and wonder to walls everywhere. The original painting is 11" X 14".

Anne (2016)

Anne (2016)

The original is a 12" X 12" acrylic painting on canvas. The painting features Anne, a scrawny little tuxedo kitten, who was fostered with the Silicon Valley Pet Project. She was abandoned behind a church in April as a newborn along with the rest of her litter. She was bottle-fed and raised with her brother, Jax, who was adopted in June. As hard as it is for black cats to get adopted, this black and white cutie went to her forever home in July of 2016.

Anne is named after the 18th century pirate Anne Bonny, since she was always a fighter from the day she was born. Not many abandoned kittens make it, but she never gave up, and was always the strong and healthy one. She led her brother on many adventures into dresser drawers and over baby gates, and I'm sure she'll continue to make mischief for years to come.

Portrait of Two Girls (2016)

Portrait of Two Girls (2016)

This is an acrylic portrait on a 14" X 11" canvas. It was commissioned by a local family, and is not for sale.

Jax (2016)

Jax (2016)

This is a 12" x 12" acrylic painting on canvas of a foster kitten from the Silicon Valley Pet Project. At the time of the painting, he was approximately 2 months old. His eyes were changing from their baby blues to more of a greenish-gold color. Jax is an adorable spotted tabby with white markings.

This painting won the blue ribbon in the monthly competition within the Sunnyvale Art Club for June 2016.

Raising the Solstice Sun (2016)

Raising the Solstice Sun (2016)

This is a 30" X 24" acrylic painting on canvas. I was inspired by Mucha's flowing lines in both the figure work and decorative border, but opted for a more vibrant color palette. I wanted the painting to have a feeling of a stained glass window, which provides a view to the "outside," while at the same time giving context and meaning to the winter scene.

Rose (2015)

Rose (2015)

This is a 12" x 12" acrylic painting on canvas. It's a "Paradise Found" rose that grows in my backyard. It's my favorite kind of rose, with deep red outer petals, and bright pink and white highlights toward the center. It's also got a wonderful smell.

This painting won the blue ribbon in the acrylic section at the 2016 Sunnyvale Art Club Library Show.

Pillars of Creation/Starry Night (2013)

Pillars of Creation/Starry Night (2013)

This is a 24" X 30" acrylic painting on canvas.

I took inspiration from the Pillars of Creation in nature and van Gogh's "Starry Night" to create a unique piece that harmoniously blends the realism of space with the impressionism of a night sky.

Cat's Eye Nebula (2015)

Cat's Eye Nebula (2015)

This is a 24" X 36" acrylic painting on a 1.5" gallery wrapped canvas.

I wanted to experiment with fluorescent acrylics for this one, so I bought a set, and one of them ended up being Phosphorescent Green, a glow-in-the-dark paint. I hadn't even realized 'til I turned out the lights that the green parts glowed. So I went back and mixed the Phosphorescent Green with the other colors and repainted it to glow in the dark.

This is what it looks like with the lights out: http://i.imgur.com/7nMIDL6.jpg

This painting won 3rd place in the acrylic section in the 2016 Sunnyvale Art Club Library Show.

The Lick Observatory at Sunset (2016)

The Lick Observatory at Sunset (2016)

This is a 11" X 14" acrylic painting on canvas of the Lick Observatory in San Jose. I took some creative liberties in adding stars that would otherwise not be seen this time of day.

The Day After Christmas (2014)

The Day After Christmas (2014)

This is an 18" X 14" acrylic painting on canvas.

In 2013 I went back to Wisconsin for Christmas. The morning after Christmas, I woke up to a foggy, icy day. The sun hovered near the horizon, just barely visible through the frost in the air, and a thin layer of hoarfrost covered the trees and grass.

Quechee Gorge (2014)

Quechee Gorge (2014)

This is a 20" X 16" acrylic painting on canvas.

I visited Vermont in 2012 and was amazed by their wide variety of natural landscape. Though I visited in the summer, I wanted to experiment with a more colorful, impressionistic style and chose a more fall-like color palette.

This painting was unfortunately damaged before a scan of it could be made. As a result, the original is not for sale, and I have no prints of it.

Rush - A Shiba Inu Portrait (2016)

Rush - A Shiba Inu Portrait (2016)

This was a very small portrait done right before Christmas in 2016. It's a 5"X7" acrylic painting on wood board. The source file was very small, about 4kb, so I wasn't able to add a lot of detail to the dog.

Dog Portrait #1 (2016)

Dog Portrait #1 (2016)

This is a 7" X 5" acrylic painting on board of a mixed-breed dog.

Autumn Fox (2015)

Autumn Fox (2015)

I used Roeselien Raimond's photograph "Red Fox Lying in the Green Grass" as a source photograph for this painting. I wanted to accentuate the fall coloring, and provide more contrast between the fox and the background to really make it pop. The original photograph can be seen on her website here: http://www.roeselienraimond.com/red_foxes/#jp-carousel-4378

This was one of my first watercolor paintings. It's an 11" X 8 1/2" watercolor painting of roses that were blooming in the nearby Heritage Rose Garden in San Jose.

Lazy Sunday Afternoon (2016)

Lazy Sunday Afternoon (2016)

This is a 11" X 8 1/2" watercolor painting. I painted this after seeing my 10-year-old son waste away a beautiful afternoon sitting at his computer in the dark.
